What is the Panama Canal partial transit?
The partial transit is a half-day cruise that lets you experience the Panama Canal from inside a vessel. You board at Flamenco Marina on the Amador Causeway, pass under the Bridge of the Americas, and enter the Miraflores Locks. Your ship is lifted 16 meters in two stages, then continues a short distance to the Pedro Miguel Locks for a final lift, reaching the level of Gatun Lake.
From there, the route follows the historic Gaillard Cut, a 13 km channel dynamited through the Continental Divide. The cruise disembarks at Gamboa, on the shores of Gatun Lake. A bus brings you back to Panama City.

Local tips
Book at least 2 weeks ahead in cruise season (November to April). Arrive 30 minutes before departure. Bring sunscreen and a hat, the top deck has almost no shade. A light jacket helps when the ship enters the locks, the breeze off the concrete is cool. Sit on the port side (left) when heading north for the best view of Miraflores from above.
